A Place for Your Space
Throughout our days and weeks, we participate in different activities and engage in different moods. Each of these moods and activities call for their own place. Having a physical place for your different activities and moods helps reinforce and strengthen each over time.
For instance, you may take time to be creative and engage in some form of art, writing or solution thinking. As every professional artist knows, going to your atelier helps your creativity, focuses your attention and removes distractions from the outside world. Certainly you need a Contemplation Space if you meditate. This might also be called a Grounded Space and doesn’t mean just mediation. We often don’t take enough time to just stop and think, and doing so is vitally important for clarity of understanding ourselves, our values and our desires. When it’s time to give to others, you would go to your Service Space.
When you want to just have fun, you go to your Play Space, which could be outdoors, the gym or even a video game. I love to go into nature whether it’s to hike or snowshoe. That’s one of my Play Spaces.
I have a friend who although wealthy, had trouble each time she sat down to pay bills or review investments. She would get anxious and depressed having to deal with money. So I suggested she redefine the space where she did this. I asked her to call it her Prosperity Center, and to make a sign with that name and put it on her desk. A smile came to her face immediately, and she told me that it has completely changed the way she feels when she deals with money.
Having a Family Place could be something you could create. It used to be the dinner table, but that doesn’t always happen these days.
With your Space, you will also benefit from having a specific time. If it isn’t dinner for your family, when could you regularly set aside Family Time. A time without electronics in a Family Space were you can reconnect with your loved ones.
What other Places and Times can you think of that would be important to create in your life?
