Every Little Thing…
Scrum and Scrum for Your Life is about breaking down big goals into little steps. Daily accomplishments lead to completed Sprint goals and completed Sprints can add up to completed Backlog items and the realization of the goals on your Bucket List.
Here’s an example. Suppose you commit to walking 10,000 steps a day. That can be a challenge for some, but it’s not out of reach. At the end of a 28-day sprint, assuming you met your goal 90 percent of the time you will have walked 126 miles!!! Over a year of sprints that’s over 1,600 miles. That is like walking from Boston to Miami.
An example you may be familiar with is the Latte Factor. Save that $5.00 a day and at the end of the year you have $1,800 to spend on something you value more. That is the whole point of Scrum for Your Life. Learning what you value to drive your daily actions. If you decide that in your ranking of values you really enjoy that latte, then you go for it. If you would really like to take a trip to Hawaii and haven’t been able to save for it, you have a decision to make.
There are countless examples I could cite. If you read 20 minutes a day, that’s 121 hours a year. Compare that to how much television you watch and make a trade. Take a pottery class, learn a new language or volunteer for a cause. These are all activities that take a small amount of time each day and add up to big accomplishments over time.
What is your next little thing?
