The Joy of Reviewing
Work, work, work. That’s what we do to reach our goals, right? “Don’t decrease the goal, increase the effort!” “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” You know it, and yes it is true - achieving your goals does take work. And to succeed and keep going, we need to find pleasure in the work. That is not always possible, but what Scrum for Your Life does is create time for you to periodically review your goals, and feel the pleasure of accomplishment. Not after two, three or more years of hard work, but every four weeks!
I believe that this is vitally important and is one of the things that makes Scrum for Your Life so effective. By pausing and looking at your incremental progress every four weeks, you build momentum, confidence and the faith that you can do something more in the next four weeks. Take the time to see what you’ve done and how it compares with where you started. Realize that YOU did that, and notice how good it feels when you do.
Anything we achieve is done so by the completion of a series of small steps that added together amount to something significant. One of the reasons that people often feel let down when they achieve a big goal is because when everything is finally done, when the last touch of paint is on the canvas, it’s only a little bit different from the day before.
You can use the entire Scrum for Your Life method, or you can adopt parts of it to help you achieve what is important to you. While using the whole process will guarantee that you’ll reach your goals over time, using even a part of it, like celebrating your accomplishments every four weeks, will certainly help get you closer to your goal faster. And then you can start a new one.
