A Dream or a Vision

There are plenty of things that we dream about. Vacations in the tropics, a new car or a dream job. And while it is good to have dreams, they are distinctly different from having a vision. Dreams are things you think about. Visions are things you commit to.

With a dream, you might wonder what it would be like to spend a few weeks in the Bahamas. With a vision, you see yourself there in rich detail. You smell the salt air, feel the breeze in your face and watch the palms sway as you sip your afternoon drink. You see yourself surrounded by the people important to you who you want to bring with you. You feel the hot sand seeping between your toes as you walk toward the waves lapping at the beach.

With this vision implanted in your brain, you begin planning. You add the trip to your Master Backlog and you begin pulling tasks into each Sprint. Some research (avoid hurricane season) , airfare, hotels, etc. Select dates, purchase airfare. It may take a few sprints to finish everything, until one day you are lying on the beach with a Mai Tai.

So dream, dream, dream. Then select a dream that inspires you and turn it into a vision. Then, make that vision a reality.
