Another Way to Do Sprints

While the formal way to arrange Sprints, and the way it’s described in Scrum for Your Life, is to schedule them for either two or four weeks. I prefer four week Sprints because it spreads out the overhead of the other ceremonies (Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective and Sprint Planning) and because it always assures that they will occur on a weekend when I have more time to give them my attention.

It’s certainly possible to schedule Sprints on a calendar month though. You only add a third of a week to the Sprint, and I like the convenience of being to look at a month and have it coincide with my Sprint accomplishments. However, today being Friday and the end of July, I’m not likely sit down to do what is necessary to close out this Sprint and start the next one. Tomorrow would be soon enough, but if this was a Wednesday…

If you have the time and the discipline to do monthly Sprints, I’d love to hear from you. Please let me know how this works for you.
