Value: Financial Freedom and Security
This has always been a big one for me, as it is for many others. If you’re like most people, you want to have a sense that at the very least all of your basic needs will always be taken care of. And you would like to have some of the finer things in life too; a nice house, a nice car, vacations to exotic places and other things on your bucket list.
For many people the solution to this is to have a pile of money in the bank that can be drawn on at anytime without impacting the ability to draw from it indefinitely. Or they aim for that next raise or promotion that will add another x number of dollars to their salary and finally give them the ability to move into that bigger house, or buy that bigger car.
But here is the absolute key to financial security. While it may be simple, it’s not easy. It’s knowing that YOU can produce income because you offer the world something of value. Once you have developed a marketable skill, and become expert at it, you never need to worry about income. You know deep inside you that you will always be employable, even if you employ yourself.
In today’s world, one of the most important skills you can have is the ability to learn a new skill, because that marketable skill you have today may be obsolete tomorrow. Being flexible and adaptable can create a true sense of security within yourself, because you realize that as the world changes, so can you. The truly successful person is the one who can anticipate change and prepare in advance for the next high-demand skill.
The point is that Financial Security comes from within. It comes from constantly learning and improving yourself and being aware of your industry and the direction it is going. Having money is not the answer. Knowing that you can always produce more is.
